Mechanical Engineer

Reports to Director of Engineering
Work location: Geneva, IL.

Scope/Summary Statement: The Mechanical Engineer shall have the responsibility to apply analytical and experimental techniques for the improvement of existing designs and the development of new designs. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible to work within the established guidelines on projects including planning, scheduling and budgeting to successful conclusion.

Job Function Statements:

  • Work out adaptations to existing designs or suggest possible new designs.
  • Participate in the re-design of products and/or improvements in materials and quality control methods necessitated by laboratory test failures, or the disclosure by customers of certain product weaknesses.
  • Assist in the development of patent applications, documentation and defense of designs deemed appropriate.
  • Measures suppliers’ products against performance, quality and cost requirements.
  • Keeps up to date of technical advances in his/her specialized field through trade associations and publications.
  • Advise the Director of Engineering of any suggested product improvements.
  • Advises, on pertinent technical matters, to those CAD Designers/Operators, Machinists, Lab Technicians and other support personnel working on projects for which they are responsible.
  • Assist when requested in the solution of production or assembly problems as they arise.
  • Provide customer service assistance to include consultation on installations, expansions and repairs.
  • Understands the needs of potential customers and be able to effectively communicate those needs to within the company.
  • Reviews and checks all drawings, machined parts, supplies, and other information necessary to insure accuracy.
  • Able to manage design projects in a timely and cost effective manner.

Education and / or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Preferred candidates will have a minimum of 0-5 years’ experience in a mechanical testing environment, preferably working with products involving forgings, castings and metal fabricated products.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle competing requests and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer application such as Solidworks, Excel, Word, Outlook and FEA software such as Ansys or Solidworks Simulation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to intermittently sit/stand for various duties.
  • Ability to walk in plant periodically, bend and stoop to access file drawers.
  • Ability to work on a computer for the majority of the workday.

Staff Accountant

Scope/Summary Statement: The Staff Accountant will provide general accounting functions to assist and support the Finance Department and other departments within the Miner Enterprises group of companies.

Job Function Statements:

  • Process vendor and employee invoices and payments for Corporate and WH Miner division, prepare monthly reconciliation report, and resolve discrepancies timely..
  • Process cash receipts for all companies, prepare monthly reconciliation report and resolve discrepancies in a timely fashion.
  • Process federal and state payroll withholding & estimated income tax payments.
  • Prepare and pay sales tax returns for Illinois, Texas, Florida, Canada, and other jurisdictions.
  • Review and code Purchase Card activity including receipts review and payment processing.
  • Account for and control the capital expenditure process, including:
    • Use Sage software to calculate depreciation for both book and tax purposes
    • Reconcile fixed asset accounts monthly.
    • Assist with annual fixed asset audits/reviews.
    • Complete various personal property tax returns.
  • Assist with year-end audit requirements.
  • Complete W-9 vendor updates and annual 1099 reporting and filing.
  • Maintain files for the Accounting Department and distribute department mail daily.
  • Assist team members in projects, as needed.

Education and / or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field with a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role. Previous relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle competing requests and deadlines.
  • Work independently and work in a team environment, understanding the goal is to provide excellent service to our customers.

Mechanical Test Engineer

We are looking for a team-oriented engineer to join our team in Geneva, IL. Our Research and Development Lab is responsible for providing testing and support to Miner and its subsidiaries in the form of product development and validation, quality assurance, sales and customer assistance as well as supply chain growth. The R&D Test Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support and assistance as needed for R&D projects and test programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform stress analysis, Finite Element Analysis, data reduction, and data analysis, on testing equipment and company products.
  • Utilize stress or strain based design techniques for test fixtures and test equipment used in Static, Dynamic, and Cyclic testing.
  • Create engineering documentation on fixture designs, equipment designs, and lab test reports for internal and contract testing.
  • Assist in contract testing efforts, including regulatory or industry standard review, test sequence proposals, quoting of man hours, material, and equipment, and formal test reports.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures of test fixtures and equipment
  • Collaborate with electrical technicians and maintenance personnel on troubleshooting of electro-mechanical test equipment and repairs/upgrades.
  • Manage internal and contract test projects from initiation to completion.
  • Research, Recommend, and specify new equipment or procedures toward enhancing and expanding the Research & Development capabilities.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent field such as metallurgical engineering or electronics engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information to technical and non-technical project stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand department priorities and align activities with company objectives while receiving competing work requests and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency with CAD/Drafting software – preferably Solidworks.
  • Experience with Computer FEA software – preferably ANSYS.
  • Proficiency in computer application such as Excel, Word, Outlook and database programs.

Machinist

Machinist reports to Machine Shop Foreman, Miner Enterprises
Work location: Geneva, IL.

Scope/Summary Statement:

The Machinist will be responsible for the planning, setup, and operation of all machine shop equipment such as milling, grinding, drilling, band/chop saw, turning (lathe work) and polishing.

Job Function Statements:

  • Set up and monitor all shop machines and there processes. Including holding tolerances of +/- .002.
  • Read and understand blue prints, drawings, sketches and instructions to complete specifications of output.
  • Must be able to setup and operate all manual machine shop equipment.
  • Create basic Prototrak conversational CNC programs.
  • Custom machine parts for “fit and function”. Not all parts will have drawings or specifications.
  • Communicate and collaborate with various departments to create proto type components parts, assemblies, tooling gages, maintenance repair parts and test equipment.
  • Must be able to accurately use measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, pin gages and other standard precision measuring devices.

Education and / or Experience:

  • High School graduate or GED required, completion of technical school highly recommended.
  • Minimum of 5 years of machining experience.
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.).
  • CNC programming and CAD software experience is a plus.
  • Ability to machine and fabricate parts.
  • Ability to work in a safety conscious manner; understanding safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform related tasks in a time-sensitive environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds.

Hydraulic Mechanic

Hydraulic Mechanic reports to Foreman, Miner Enterprises
Work location: Geneva, IL. Full Time-1st. shift

Key Responsibilities:

The Hydraulic Mechanic is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of heavy duty hydraulic equipment, as well as performing general machine/building maintenance.

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and maintain heavy duty hydraulic systems
  • Identify hydraulic components and their capabilities
  • Read and understand schematics
  • Capable of performing electrical/mechanical troubleshooting root-cause, repairing and rebuilding equipment
  • Work with production personnel to correctly identify repair requirements
  • Understand and utilize blueprints, operator manuals and/or part catalogs in order to successfully fulfill preventative and corrective maintenance procedures
  • Perform work on motors, compressors, conveyors and boilers, and various hydraulic presses ranging from 5-600 tons
  • Be available for emergency breakdowns (on-call) and/or snow removal during off work hours, as needed

Requirements:

  • HS diploma and/or vocational school training. Minimum of 5 year’s hydraulic experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of hydraulic systems and components including troubleshooting and retro-fitting or designing hydraulic systems.
  • Solid understanding of electrical (480V), mechanical pneumatic, hydraulic and piping systems.
  • Welding and torch cutting abilities.
  • Ability to machine and fabricate parts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for injection molding, hydraulic presses and automated assembly equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work in a safety conscious manner; understanding safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

Assemblers

We are currently looking for qualified Assemblers to work full time in our Geneva, IL location.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Assemble product in accordance with process instructions and quality specifications, in a safe and timely manner.
  • Inspection of parts to ensure quality standards.
  • Follow work instructions, during the manufacturing process.
  • Teardown and setup of equipment and tooling according to specifications.
  • Enter information obtained using measuring devices into data collection system.
  • Operation of manual and semi-automatic jobs as well as grinders and other machines.
  • Report information to appropriate quality and production forms.
  • Run extruders and other related equipment.
  • Ability to use gauges, rulers, calipers, general plastics processing equipment hand tools, fixtures and packaging equipment.

Requirements:

  • Experience with using hand tools
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English
  • Basic computer skills
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Maintenance Mechanic

We are looking for someone on first shift and someone on second shift.
Essential responsibilities include:

  • Capable of performing electrical/mechanical troubleshooting root-cause, repairing and rebuilding equipment.  This includes working directly with production personnel to correctly identify repair requirements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM’s) on production equipment with minimal guidance to ensure machines and building systems continue to operate efficiently and reduce downtime.
  • Understand and utilize blueprints, operator manuals and/or part catalogs in order to successfully fulfill preventative and corrective maintenance procedures.  Some machinery will require you work directly with manufacturer.
  • Complete required Work Order paperwork, Material Requisition, etc. as needed.
  • Machine and fabricate parts.
  • Perform work on motors, compressors, conveyors and boilers.
  • Follow proper safety protocols and adhering to Arc Flash requirements as well as Lock Out/Tag Out requirements.
  • Be available for emergency breakdowns (on-call) and/or snow removal during off work hours, as needed.

Candidate requirements:

  • HS diploma and/or vocational school training.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a maintenance mechanic.
  • Excellent working knowledge of PLC’s including troubleshooting and basic programming abilities.
  • Solid understanding of electrical (480V), mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and piping systems.
  • Welding and torch cutting abilities.
  • Ability to machine and fabricate parts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for injection molding, hydraulic presses and automated assembly equipment.
  • HVAC/Boiler operational and troubleshooting skills.
  • Previous experience with repair and service for motorized material handling vehicles
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work in a safety conscious manner; understanding safety guidelines and protocols that affect this position.
